This early summer chamber music event features Reinaldo Moya’s swirling new piece for three violins. At the center of the concert are Antonin Dvořáks Third String Quintet, inspired by Native American melodies and African American folk music he studied under the guidance of his student Harry Burleigh, and Johannes Brahms’ romantic and emotional String Sextet No. 2. Then, the Minnesota Orchestra’s virtuosic wind musicians get their moment to shine as James Stephenson’s Octet draws upon the characters of Igor Stravinsky’s iconic Octet of one century ago.
