Hennepin Health held the official ribbon cutting for its new Clinic and Specialty Center located across the street from and skyway connected to Hennepin County Medical Center in East Town on Thursday. The building, located on 8th and Chicago, will add 377,000 square feet of healthcare space downtown with a focus on providing top-notch care in a 21st century facility to everyone in our community needing medical assistance.

The event featured a speaker list including HCMC CEO Dr. Jon Pryor, Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minneapolis City Council Member Lisa Goodman, representatives from Mortenson Construction and BWBR, Delta Dental and more.

The event culminated with a ribbon cutting, ushering in a new era of Hennepin healthcare provided downtown.

A few details regarding the new building include:

  • Six floors of clinics and services, plus two levels of underground parking for patients and their families and a seventh floor utility penthouse
  • 377,000 square feet
  • Primary care, specialty care, physical therapy/occupational therapy
  • Same day surgery center with 5 operating rooms (2 shelled) and 4 GI/endoscopy rooms
  • Cancer Center with Radiation Therapy
  • Outpatient Imaging Center, Women’s Imaging
  • Financed with Hennepin County issued bonds, service on bonds paid by Hennepin Healthcare Systems, Inc. operating revenues
