go outside with hennepin county off to a good start, more events to come all summer long

Movies, trivia, food trucks, lawn games, pianos, and the list goes on and on.

All of these things have a few things in common; they all take place outside, and are all a part of the Go Outside with Hennepin County summer programming, produced by the mpls downtown council and Hennepin County. The program, which began on the 1st of June, is off to a great start. With two primary locations, Target Field Station and Hennepin County Government Center South Plaza, there have been an abundance of fun things to do outside in downtown mpls this month, which will continue all summer long.

At Target Field Station, there has been one Tuesday Trivia Night so far this summer, with three more yet to come. At our first Tuesday Trivia Night, Trivia Mafia created a challenging, yet fun set of questions for participants to answer. Every single person went home with a prize at our first event, with the winning team taking home a pair of Minnesota Twins baseball tickets! Prizes will be given out again at our next three trivia nights, as well, so we invite you to assemble a team, grab your thinking caps, and head to our next Tuesday Trivia night, taking place at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 27th.

Also taking place at Target Field Station are Thursday Movie Nights. There have been two movie nights so far this summer. Movies that have been shown include “The Sandlot” and “Footloose.” Both of these movie nights have been widely successful. Crowds have filled the Target Field Station lawn at both showings, with some movie-goers even sitting on the sidewalk because there were no more spots on the grass! The next movie night will take place on Thursday, June 29 at 7:00 PM with a showing of “The Parent Trap.”

South Plaza has been a busy place all month long, beginning with a live piano performance by Mark Mallman on Tuesday, June 6th. Mallman’s performance helped kick off the Pianos On Parade program, which includes weekly Tuesday performances at many locations around downtown. Aside from the piano parked at South Plaza all month long, which is free to play to the public, South Plaza also plays host to a handful of activities every Wednesday from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM. These activities include an art cart with a ton of lawn games, along with a meditation area with mats on the grass. There is also a rotating food truck parked at South Plaza every Wednesday for lunch, too! In addition to these Tuesday and Wednesday activities, South Plaza also hosts a  Farmer’s Market from 6:00 AM-6:00 PM every Thursday with local vendors and booths there every week. Be sure to check out all of these great happenings at South Plaza!

Go Outside with Hennepin County has been a ton of fun all month long. We thank all of those who have made these events such a success. We hope you will continue to Go Outside and enjoy this wonderful program!
