Minnesota Dance and the Ecstasies of Influences

Focusing on symbolic stories within the dances of our Afro-Latino communities, we find universalities while acknowledging the personal influences at play inside the larger culture of a people. Grounded by African Diasporic histories in our particular Latin dances, the panel highlights how each speaker’s ancestral heritage adjusted to new ways of life demonstrated in their dances and, that being based in Minnesota, identities have changed or been made more apparent for each one.
