CLB Talk: Chef Seth Bixby Daugherty

August 14, 2017 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

After leaving New York, Daugherty moved to Colorado to open Paul’s Creekside Grill in the Hotel at the Inn at Silvercreek and then to Minneapolis where he worked as chef of D’Amico Cucina for three years. From January 2003 to December 2006 he was the opening and executive chef of Graves601 hotel in Minneapolis. During his time at the Graves Daugherty was recognized by Food and Wine magazine as one of Americas Best New Chefs for 2005.

In December of 2006 Seth and his wife Karen started Real Food Initiatives to help deal with the multidimensional problem that is Americas relationship with food. Daugherty is very active participating in events and dinners for both Share our Strength and The James Beard Foundation. Through Real Food Initiatives, in conjunction with the University of Minnesota and Share our Strength, he has launched Cooking Matters, an education program that works with families to help them better understand the importance of nutritional planning and healthy eating.

In 2010 he joined 16 other chefs from around the country to work with the First Lady Michelle Obama on her Lets Move, initiative. Chef Seth has long been involved with issues around hunger relief, nutrition education and the joy of being able to give back through his gift of food and cooking. Between 2005 and 2011 he was runner up three times for the Humanitarian of the Year award from Share our Strength, a national hunger relief organization. In June of 2012 Seth was in Washington DC speaking on Capital Hill with members of Congress on issues regarding Hunger in America. While there Chef Seth was awarded Advocate of the Year by Share our Strength.

For the past three years Chef Seth has been the mentor for the Elk River High School ProStart Team in Minnesota. And in November of 2015 Chef Seth was awarded Community Hero by his culinary peers in Minnesota for the work he is doing with kids and food.
